In the beautiful coast town of Rosarito, Mexico, something special happens daily in the 270,000 square feet that make up the Baja Wood Furniture plant. Here, 750 employees produce 2,000 pieces of quality furniture a day. Every piece touched by hundreds of employees who take enormous pride in the products they produce. At Baja Wood, it’s more about the people and less about the machines. Each employee’s talent is part of a well oiled system that comes together to make it happen from raw wood straight through to the finished product using the rough mill process found only in solid wood production. 300,000 square feet of lumber goes from board to product here every week.
The wood is shipped in from the United States, and the first step is prescreening all the wood for quality, checking moisture, splits, knots, marks, and straightness. The wood is then graded 1 to 3. Each grade used for something different. For instance, grade 1 is used for door fronts and tops.
Part of Baja Wood’s remarkable story is the efficiency of how the wood is used. There is 0 waste. Everything is made new self and everything is valuable. The attention to detail continues with expert layers of finishing that gives the furniture their distinctive look. Finishes are sprayed on and sanded between coats to achieve beautiful durable surfaces.
All the production at Baja Wood is done by very organized groups, each with purpose and specific goals. If goals are not met, the reason is found and corrected. The result is a consistent quality product that everyone takes enormous pride in.
